DAP picked Wong Siew Ki to defend Belakong state seat

KUALA LUMPUR -- DAP has picked Subang Jaya Municipal Councillor Wong Siew Ki to defend its Balakong state seat in the by-election scheduled on Sept 8. DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said Wong, 32, was selected among others for her contributions and efforts at grassroots level. “She has the experience and we want to feature a woman candidate to give opportunity to the gender group. In fact, we took the recommendation of Selangor DAP,” he told a media conference at DAP headquarters, Bernama reported. The by-election was called following the death of incumbent Eddie Ng in a car accident on July 20. In the 14th general election (GE14), Ng who contested on DAP ticket, defeated Barisan Nasional's Lim Chin Wah and Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali (PAS) with a 35,538 vote majority. KUALA LUMPUR -- Umat Islam yang ingin berpuasa sunat sempena hari wukuf di Arafah boleh melaksanakannya pada 9 Zulhijjah 1439 Hijrah bersamaan 21 Ogos ini, kata Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (Jakim) Datuk Mohamad Nordin Ibrahim. Equanimity will be on sale before year end

KUALA LUMPUR --The luxury superyacht 'Equanimity', believed to be owned by fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low will be sold within three to four months,  said Attorney-General Tommy Thomas. He said the yacht worth RM1 billion, believed to be part of the assets purchased using funds from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) , could be sold pending litigation in a very transparent way as they (1    MDB) need to transform the ship into monies. "We  expect the process (of selling the yacht)  will be completed within three to four months pending nobody contesting  the ownership of the yacht in our courts. "The money that we get (from the selling) will be transferred into a fixed bank account which will be granted to any party who can successfully establish the ownership of the yacht in a civil suit," he said at a special session during 2018 International Malaysia Law Conference here, today. KUALA LUMPUR -- Pemegang kad pengenalan merah dan berstatus pemastautin tetap berusia 60 tahun ke atas akan diberi taraf warganegara, sekali gus diberi kad pengenalan biru, kata Perdana Menteri Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Ini termasuk 3,407 individu berketurunan India yang memegang kad pengenalan merah berusia 60 tahun ke atas yang akan diiktiraf sebagai warganegara Malaysia. EPF has not incurred RM6.09 billion loss

KUALA LUMPUR — The daily movement of the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) does not have an impact on the dividends paid out by the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) as it is the policy of the retirement fund to declare dividends based on its net profit, said Lim Guan Eng. The Finance Minister said when compared to the original shares purchase price or book value, the EPF still recorded profits overall. “However, the shares are not sold, hence the profits are not recorded and are unrealised gains,” he said when replying to a question by Tenggara Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Adham Baba during the oral question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat sitting here today. Govt remain committed to implements Bumiputera economic agenda

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The government will remain pro-active and committed in revitalising the implementation of the Bumiputera economic agenda, says Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali. KUALA LUMPUR — Ketua Polis Negeri dan pegawai kanan yang gagal menangani isu seperti judi dan rasuah di kawasan yang dipertanggungjawabkan kepada mereka akan dikenakan tindakan tatatertib termasuk dibuang kerja. KUALA LUMPUR -- Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department  Datuk Liew Vui Keong told the Dewan Rakyat that the seizure of the superyatch Equanimity was made according to Malaysian procedures and laws. He refuted claims that the action by the government in sealing the luxury yatch was illegal. KUALA LUMPUR -- Perdana Menteri Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad mengulangi pendirian kerajaan untuk tetap mengutamakan penggunaan Bahasa Melayu dalam semua urusan rasmi negara. Krisis kewangan Turki dijangka beri kesan kepada Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR – Kementerian Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri (MITI) menjangkakan Malaysia akan menerima kesan daripada krisis kewangan Turki. Govt will not amends the Constitution to restored the assent of the Agong

KUALA LUMPUR – The government will not amend the Federal Constitution in a bid to restore the mandatory requirement for the assent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to enable a bill to become law. Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said this being that Article 66 (4A) of the Federal Constitution concerning the matter had been amended three times. “The constitution  has been amended thrice through amendments in 1983, 1984 and 1994. The amendments made in 1994 were to Article 66 (4) and (4a) of the Federal Constitution were to ensure a bill does not take long to become law. “With the amendments, except those touching on the privileges of the rulers, any bill will become law after 30 days of it been passed by Parliament,” he said in response to a question by Datuk Seri Ismail Mohamed Said (BN-Kuala Krau) during the question and answer session in the Dewan Rakyat.

Guan Eng refutes allegation he problem with China

KUALA LUMPUR – Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng on Monday refuted allegations that he was not joining Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to visit China because he had problems with the republic. It will be hot and dry weather throughout August to September

KUALA LUMPUR -- The hot and dry weather in most areas and states in Peninsular Malaysia is expected to persist throughout August until mid-September. According to the Meteorological Department's Long-Term Weather Forecast for August until March 2019, this was due to the active phase of the southwest monsoon. “Throughout August, most places in Peninsular Malaysia will receive normal rainfall between 150mm and 250mm except in several places in Perak (central to south), Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. “However, heavy rains and thunderstorms with strong winds can occur in the waters off the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia early in the morning, following the formation of squall line known as the ‘Sumatras’," the report said. Kereta nasional ketiga tidak guna duit kerajaan

The apointments of key officials will be determined by Parliment

PUTRAJAYA -- The powers of the government and prime minister in matters pertaining to the appointment of several key officials will be reduced through the establishment of the Special Parliamentary Committee, said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. He said the appointment of the top official of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Auditor-General would be decided by the special committee after the proposal for its establishment had been agreed upon. Government to limits internet access for teenagers under 17

KUALA LUMPUR -- The government is looking into measures to limit internet access for teenagers under 17-years-old after 12 midnight until 6 am as implemented in Japan and Korea. Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye said it was among the effort to curb addiction towards video game and social media applications among teenagers in the country.  “There are also gaming providers that prevent users aged under 17 from accessing the game after one to two hours and then they are cut offline. These are among the steps we are looking into to ensure the game addiction could be brought under control,” he said during the question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat sitting.
