Cautious sentiment to weigh on Bursa Malaysia next week

KUALA LUMPUR -- The downtrend momentum on Bursa Malaysia will likely continue next week with investors staying cautious as worries over global trade dispute return, a dealer said. He said as the corporate earnings season has come to an end, external developments, especially on trade, would have a major influence in the trading pattern. “Fears on global trade outlook will continue haunt equities. If risk appetite shy away, the stock markets, not only Malaysia but also at the global stage, will be under pressure again,” he told Bernama. It was reported that US President Donald Trump wants to press ahead with his plan to slap tariffs on US$200 billion worth Chinese imports as soon as a public comment period concludes next week. The dealer noted that the sensitivity around trade would cause an imbalance in the foreign exchange (forex) market, thus elevating US dollar and other safe-haven currencies. Ar...

The appoinment of Tan with specific tasks

KUANTAN -- The appointment of DAP chairman Tan Kok Wai as special envoy  to China will not disrupt or affect the existing duties of the current ambassador, Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said. He said that the appointment of Tan, who is also Cheras MP, came with specific tasks, which would “complement”  the job functions of  the ambassador to China, Datuk Zainuddin Yahya. While acknowledging that the current policy was to do away with political appointees as envoys, there was a need to improve and forge better ties with China because of its size and vastness, said Saifuddin. “This was the thinking when we wanted to appoint the special envoy,” he told reporters after attending the Indera Mahkota Parliamentary Consultative Council (MPIM) meeting at Kompleks Dagangan Mahkota. Saifuddin, who is also Indera Mahkota MP, said that Tan had already been appointed and was now waiting for the officia...

If it is sold or transferred to another person, then the contract is cancelled. I am sorry. “If we do not have the ability to execute the contract, do not try to get a contract. If our intention is only to sell the contract we have acquired, then the contract that we sold is no longer valid, it can no longer be implemented,” he said.     The prime minister said this when opening the  Congress on the Future of Bumiputera and the Nation – Addressing the Challenges Faced by Bumiputera in the New Malaysia ...
