American to be hang for murdering ex-wife

KUALA LUMPUR -- A former engineering consultant at a telecommunications company was sentenced to death by the High Court here after being found guilty of killing his ex-wife two years ago. Judge Datuk Azman Abdullah passed the sentence on Mickleson Gerald Wayne, 63, an American citizen after finding the prosecution had succeeded in proving its case beyond any reasonable doubt at the end of the defence case. The accused, represented by counsel K. A. Ramu, was charged with killing Guilda Mickelson, 62, also an American citizen in a hotel room at Lingkaran Syed Putra, Brickfields, here between 5 am and 11.45 am, Nov 26, 2016 under Section 302 of the Penal Code which provides for death by hanging, upon conviction. Former intelligence chief to sues MACC and govt

KUALA LUMPUR -- Former director-general of Malaysia External Intelligence Organisation (MEIO) Datuk Hasanah Abdul Hamid has sued the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Government of Malaysia for denying her the right to counsel when she was held under remand for investigations into alleged abuse of power and misappropriation of government funds for the  14th General Election (GE14). Hasanah filed the originating summons through Messrs Azam Aziz Shaharudinali & Co. on Aug  30, and and named the MACC and the Malaysian government as the respondents. AG not involved in the decision not to pursue corruption charges

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Attorney-General (AG) has no hand in the decision not to pursue corruption charges against former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and businesswoman Phang Li Koon, but instead, the decision was made by Datuk Mohamad Hanafiah Zakaria, Head of Appellate & Trial Division of Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC). KUALA LUMPUR -- Menteri Wilayah Khalid Abdul Samad mahu persepsi bahawa Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) sebagai lubuk rasuah bagi kontraktor dalam mendapatkan projek dihentikan segera. Beliau berkata pihaknya tidak akan berkompromi dengan mana-mana kontraktor yang terlibat dengan gejala itu, termasuk budaya menghulur sogokan, suapan serta komisen dan sebaliknya mahu golongan itu mengutamakan profesionalisme dalam menjalankan setiap tanggungjawab. Former PAS assemblywoman remanded for two days

SHAH ALAM -- A former Selangor state assemblywoman from PAS is in remand for two days until tomorrow for abuse of government fund, amounting RM50,000. The remand order was issued today by Magistrate Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin following an application from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) . The 56-year-old woman, who will be investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act, was in handcuffs and clad in the MACC’s orange lock-up uniform when she arrived at the Shah Alam Court Complex at 10.40 am Tuesday. She was arrested by MACC yesterday when she turned up at its office to give her statement. SHAH ALAM -- Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali is leaving it to delegates to determine whether he should continue leading the party by looking at his track record serving the party for almost 20 years. BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN -- Prime Minister  Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Monday also expressed shock over  the acquittal of former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan from corruption charges. The charges were related to alleged conversion of land status and purchase of a  bungalow at below market value. The Penang High Court on Monday acquitted both Lim and co-accused Phang Li Koon of corruption charges in connection to the land conversion and bungalow purchase after the prosecution dropped the charges and sought an order for both accused to be discharged but not amounting to an acquittal. A family members, friends charged with CBT, fraud over RM6.5 million

KUALA LUMPUR -- A clerk, her three family members and five friends, were charged at three courts in Ampang on Monday with multiple counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT) and fraudulently assisting in the removal of money belonging to a security company totalling over RM6.5 million. All the accused, however, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them before Session Court Judge Suzana Hussin, Magistrate Mohamad Firdaus Sadina Ali and Magistrate Haslinda A.Raof, respectively. In the Sessions Court, V. Lavanyah, 26, who is a clerk at the security company, was charged with four counts of CBT involving a total of  RM3,566,682 belonging to the company, Golden Eagle Security Services Sdn Bhd. One out of two Malaysians fat

KUALA LUMPUR – Obesity and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the country have reached a worrying level and on the rise, the Dewan Negara was told, Monday. Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad  said the Health and Morbidity  Survey conducted by the ministry found that one out of two Malaysians were overweight or obese. “The survey also found 17.5 per cent suffered from diabetes, 30.3 per cent had hypertension and 47.7 per cent had high cholesterol levels,” he said  when replying to a question from Senator Datuk Lee Tian Sing on the obesity problem in the country.
