Stop wasting money on Fireworks an firecrackers

GEORGE TOWN – The Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) has urged the public to stop burning their hard-earned money on fireworks and firecrackers. CAP president SM Mohamad Idris stressed that Malaysians spent millions of ringgit on firecrackers and fireworks which were not only deemed unnecessary but also dangerous. Apart from being a great nuisance to the public, Idris warned that fireworks and firecrackers could  potentially cause damage to individual’s life and properties and  they are particularly unsafe to young children. “Money is hard to come by, yet easy to let go, so why spend all the hard-earned cash on fireworks and firecrackers when it could be used for something more important such as paying loans?” he questioned. No Malaysians reported on board crashed Lion Air aircraft

PUTRAJAYA -- No Malaysians were reported thus far to be on board the Lion Air aircraft carrying 189 people that crashed in Indonesia today, according to the Foreign Ministry, Wisma Putra. It said in a statement that the Malaysian embassy in Jakarta had been in touch with the local authorities on the details of the 181 passengers on board the ill-fated aircraft. Flight JT610 had crashed in the sea north of Jakarta minutes after taking off at 6.20 am (7.20 am in Malaysia) from the Indonesian capital for Pulau Bangka Belitung in Sumatera. It was scheduled to arrive at its destination at 7.10 am (8.10 am in Malaysia). “The embassy will continue to be in close contact with the local authorities to monitor the latest developments,” Wisma Putra said. Jurukimpal dilepas daripada hukuman mati

PUTRAJAYA -- Seorang tukang kimpal dilepas dan dibebaskan daripada sabitan dan hukuman gantung sampai mati atas kesalahan mengedar 1.9kg kanabis oleh Mahkamah Rayuan di sini. Keputusan tersebut dibuat oleh panel tiga hakim terdiri daripada Datuk Ahmadi Asnawi, Datuk Abdul Rahman Sebil dan Datuk Kamardin Hashim terhadap Mohamed Kanathi Meera Mydin selepas memutuskan sabitan itu adalah tidak selamat kerana mahkamah perbicaraan bergantung kepada keterangan rakan sejenayahnya. Polis tak cover up kes cabul Ahli Parlimen

KANGAR -- Polis menafikan dakwaan berlakunya cubaan menutup atau ‘cover up’ kes seksual melibatkan seorang anggota Parlimen di Perlis, sebaliknya siasatan dijalankan secara sulit mengikut prosedur ditetapkan kerana kes membabitkan mangsa bawah umur. Ketua Polis Perlis SAC Noor Mushar Mohamed berkata pihaknya tidak sama sekali bertindak berat sebelah kerana suspek seorang VVIP dan menegaskan mana-mana individu yang terlibat jenayah akan tetap dibawa ke muka pengadilan. “Polis menjalankan siasatan mengikut Seksyen 14(a) Akta Kesalahan-kesalahan Seksual Terhadap Kanak-kanak 2017 dan selesai sahaja siasatan kita akan serahkan kepada timbalan pendakwa raya untuk tindakan lanjut,” katanya. Warga Libya didakwa melakukan pembunuhan

SEPANG -- Seorang pelajar Libya didakwa di Mahkamah Majistret di sini atas pertuduhan melakukan bunuh dan menyebabkan kematian ke atas seorang pekerja Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) Unifi di Shaftsbury Square, Cyberjaya.  Tertuduh, Ahmed Abdullah Ali, 24, didakwa menyebabkan kematian Wan Amirah Wan Alias, 31, di Shaftsbury Square, Cyberjaya pada 7.35 malam, 17 Okt lalu. Pelajar tahun akhir di sebuah universiti antarabangsa itu didakwa mengikut Seksyen 302 Kanun Keseksaan yang membawa hukuman mati mandatori, jika sabit kesalahan.  Tertuduh mengangguk faham apabila pertuduhan dibacakan jurubahasa dalam bahasa Inggeris di hadapan Majistret Yusna Khadijah Md Yusop.  Tiada pengakuan direkodkan daripada tertuduh. Golongan homo dan transgender semakin meningkat di negara ini

GEORGE TOWN -- Jumlah golongan homoseksual dan transgender di negara ini menunjukkan peningkatan setiap tahun, menurut Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (Jakim). Penolong Pengarah Kanan Cawangan Sosial, Bahagian Pembangunan Keluarga, Sosial dan Komuniti Jakim Dr Mohd Izwan Mohd Yusof berkata sebanyak 310,000 golongan homoseksual terutamanya gay dicatatkan pada tahun ini berbanding 173,000 orang yang dicatatkan pada 2013, iaitu peningkatan hampir sekali ganda dalam tempoh lima tahun. Syariah laws to be streamlined nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR -- Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa told Parliament today that efforts were being made by the government to streamline and coordinate Syariah laws nationwide. Towards this end, he said, a study was being conducted on the need to amend  Syariah laws that were being enforced in the respective states to ensure they were still relevant without setting aside Islamic law and the principles of justice. “Apart from that, a study on the amendment and streamlining of laws on Syariah crime is also carried out because the laws have yet to be coordinated in terms of their offences and punishment.
