Mahathir issues warning over mockery of national harmony, peace

KUALA LUMPUR -- Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today stressed that the government will ensure that no one makes a mockery of national harmony and peace. The Prime Minister said the government will not tolerate this and warned that action will be taken according to the law to ensure that it does not happen. “If anyone violates the laws for their own interests, this government which upholds the principle of the rule of law will act in accordance with the law,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat. Dr Mahathir gave the statement in the wake of the riots in the vicinity of the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, near Subang Jaya, on Monday and Tuesday. Pasukan petugas khas siasat rusuhan kuil

KUALA LUMPUR -- Sebuah Pasukan Petugas Khas telah ditubuhkan bagi menyiasat insiden rusuhan yang berlaku di Kuil Sri Maha Mariamman di USJ 25, Subang Jaya, Dewan Rakyat diberitahu hari ini. Menteri Dalam Negeri Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin berkata pasukan itu yang dikenali sebagai Op Seafield diketuai oleh Pengarah Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah (JSJ) Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd dan menggabungkan personel daripada JSJ Bukit Aman dan kontinjen polis Selangor termasuk beberapa pejabat polis daerah di bawahnya bagi menjalankan siasatan. “Sehingga kini sebanyak 34 orang telah dirakamkan percakapan, sejumlah besar keterangan fizikal juga telah berjaya dirampas di tempat kejadian iaitu 21 kereta dan enam motosikal yang telah dibakar, sembilan pisau dan dua bilah parang, tujuh pasang kasut...

Court dismisses bid to postpone developer's takeover of temple site

SHAH ALAM -- The High Court today dismissed with costs an application by three devotees of the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25 near Subang Jaya to defer implementation of the interim consent judgment and writ of possession by One City Development Sdn Bhd, the developer-owner of the temple site. Judge M. Gunalan made the decision in chambers with regard to the application by the plaintiffs, namely S. Thangaraju, 37, M. Mohanakrishnan, 59, and S. Nagarajah, 52.  Besides One City Development, the trio had also named as the defendants one K. Chellappa; one M. Nagaraju; the Selangor Town and Country Planning director and the Selangor government. Lawyer Claudia Cheah Pek Yee, for One City Development, said to reporters after the proceedings that the court decided, among other things, that the plaintiffs had no locus standi and that One City Development is the rightful owner of the land where the temple stands.
