17 PM's Dept security personnel remanded over theft of RM3.5 m funds



PUTRAJAYA -- As many as 17 security personnel of the Prime Minister’s Department have been remanded for five days from today to assist in the investigation into the alleged embezzlement of RM3.5 million in funds meant for the 14th general election.

Magistrate Siti Nabilah Abd Rashid issued the remand order upon an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court.

Earlier, all the men, aged between 31 and 51, arrived handcuffed at the court at 9.15 am in a bus and wearing the MACC orange lock-up attire.

Among those remanded was a Grade 52 security officer aged 51. The rest were Grade 11 to Grade 38 security guards.

According to an MACC source, all the suspects were detained after they arrived at the MACC office here yesterday between 2.45 pm and 3.15 pm to give their statements.

The source said the MACC also seized cash amounting to RM840,700 and nine motorcycles of various makes worth a total of RM90,000.

All the suspects are being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
When contacted, MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki confirmed the arrests but declined to give details. -- Bernama

Pendapatan RM2 juta tanam tembikai wangi

KOTA BHARU -- Lembaga Pemasaran Pertanian Persekutuan (FAMA) gembira apabila pendapatan 29 peserta Ladang Kontrak Projek Agrotourism di Kampung Banggol di sini kini hampir mencecah RM2 juta setahun. Pengerusinya, Ishak Ismail berkata beliau yakin hasil penanaman tembikai wangi yang mereka usahakan di sebidang tanah berkeluasan lebih 40 hektar di kampung itu akan mencecah lebih RM2 juta pada tahun ini berdasarkan kepada mutu buah yang semakin baik dan mendapat permintaan tinggi. "Pendapatan mereka kini meningkat pada setiap tahun dan sebagai perbandingan pada 2011 mereka mendapat sekitar RM235,000 dan pada tahun lepas pendapatan mereka sudah mencecah hampir RM2 juta. Hujan lebat di Kelantan dijangka berlanjutan ke Januari

KOTA BHARU -- Jabatan Meteorologi Kelantan menjangkakan episod hujan lebat berkemungkinan akan berlanjutan ke bulan Januari tahun hadapan di negeri ini. Pengarahnya Rabiah Zakaria berkata ia berikutan Kelantan masih dipengaruhi Monsun Timur Laut pada bulan berkenaan. "Jabatan Meteorologi Malaysia sebelum ini menjangkakan akan berlaku empat hingga enam episod hujan lebat sepanjang Monsun Timur Laut pada tahun ini dengan purata jumlah hujan antara 440 milimeter (mm) hingga 690mm bagi bulan Disember ini di Kelantan," katanya ketika dihubungi Bernama di sini, hari ini. Rabiah berkata setakat ini empat episod hujan lebat telah berlaku di pantai timur termasuklah yang sedang berlaku sekarang.
