Atap melayang dibadai ribut dan angin kencang di Jitra

JITRA -- Kira-kira 14 buah rumah rosak teruk dalam kejadian ribut yang melanda di beberapa kampung, di sini petang semalam. Antara kampung yang terlibat ialah Kampung Paya Dudur, Kampung Paya Parit Latih, Taman Tunku Maheran, dan Kampung Paya Keriang Menyabung. Ribut yang berlaku kira-kira 6.30 petang itu menyebabkan bumbung rumah penduduk diterbangkan angin serta beberapa pokok tumbang. Seorang penduduk Kampung Paya Keriang Menyabung, Manih Chat, 73 berkata, kejadian menyebabkan dia kerugian hampir RM10,000 apabila sebahagian bumbung rumah diterbangkan angin manakala siling rumah rosak. Continuous action against foreign traffic offenders

JOHOR BAHRU -- Police will continue to take action against traffic offenders involving foreign vehicles, including from Singapore, for failing to settle outstanding summons for various offences committed in the country. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said they would, if necessary, inform the government of the need for sterner action against foreigners committing traffic offences. “What the Singapore authorities are doing...we (Royal Malaysia Police) will not interfere, that is their business. But, for traffic offenders (foreigners) in our country...we will take continuous action such as blockade and blacklist as we want them to settle their huge amount of outstanding traffic summonses. “So, efforts are ongoing, including tracing the vehicles coming in. Najib's corruption case begins today

KUALA LUMPUR -- Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will be tried on seven charges involving RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds in the High Court here today. Coincidentally, on this same day 10 years ago, Najib, who is Pekan Member of Parliament, was sworn in as the sixth prime minister. JOHOR BAHRU -- The action of a Motorcycle Patrol Unit (MPU) policeman who used his firearm in an amuk case in front of a bank at Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang, Selangor, yesterday was an act of self-defence to avoid from being stabbed. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the incident was very unfortunate and viewed seriously but it was a risk facing police officers and personnel in the line of duty. ‘’In certain conditions, it was quite hard for the MPU personnel who was being attacked to avoid taking action to defend himself as he was about to be stabbed by the suspect. ‘’It was done to save himself, as otherwise, he could have been stabbed to death by the offender. Pahang Palace revokes Gnanaraja's 'Datuk Seri' title

KUANTAN -- The Pahang Palace has revoked businessman G. Gnanaraja’s Sri Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang (SSAP) award, which carries the ‘Datuk Seri’ title, effective March 13. State secretary Datuk Seri Dr Sallehuddin Ishak confirmed this when contacted by Bernama today. The letter, dated March 13, stated that Gnanaraja, who was conferred the award on March 19, 2014, at the Pahang Palace in Jalan Raja Chulan, Kuala Lumpur, would not be allowed to use the title with immediate effect. He was also asked to return the award to the Protocol and Official Events Management Division of the State Secretary. Gnanaraja, who is the managing director of a company, was charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court today on three counts of cheating the managing director of Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd of RM19 million over an investigation into the Penang Undersea Tunnel Project two years ago.

Malindo Air now flys from JB to Guangzhou

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malindo Air has launched its first flight from Johor Bahru to Guangzhou, China which departed from Senai Airport at 10.15 pm with 96 passengers on-board and arrived at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport today morning at 2.20 am (local time). It chief executive officer Chandran Rama Muthy said the new route would serve as an alternative for travellers from Guangzhou to Malaysia. “They can easily connect to Singapore from Johor Bahru by land, or take advantage of the connecting flight to Kuala Lumpur for a twin city tour. This will encourage growth in tourist and passengers’ arrival into Malaysia. “On the other hand, we have also introduced another two new routes from Kuala Lumpur to China, i.e Zhengzhou and Chengdu. PETALING JAYA -- Kementerian Air, Tanah dan Sumber Asli sedang menyediakan kajian penuh berhubung usaha memastikan Johor tidak lagi bergantung kepada bekalan air terawat dari Singapura.  Menterinya Dr Xavier Jayakumar berkata kajian yang dilaksanakan dengan kerjasama Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN) dan kerajaan negeri itu bagi mengenalpasti impak, rangka kerja, cadangan dan rundingan berhubung kebergantungan kepada sumber asas itu. “Kita mahu Johor pergantungan sifar dan kita tidak mahu mereka ambil air (terawat) dari Singapura lagi. Datuk Seri didakwa menipu RM19 juta

SHAH ALAM -- Seorang ahli perniagaan bergelar 'Datuk Seri' dihadapkan ke Mahkamah Sesyen di sini hari ini atas tiga pertuduhan menipu seorang pengarah urusan membabitkan RM19 juta berhubung siasatan projek terowong dasar laut Pulau Pinang, dua tahun lepas. M. G. Gnanaraja, 38, bagaimanapun mengaku tidak bersalah selepas kesemua pertuduhan terhadapnya dibacakan di hadapan Hakim Rozilah Salleh. Dia didakwa memperdayakan pengarah urusan Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd  untuk mempercayai bahawa dia boleh membantu mangsa menutup siasatan yang dimulakan oleh Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) terhadap mangsa di bawah Akta Pencegahan Wang Haram, Pencegahan Pembiayaan Keganasan dan Hasil Daripada Aktiviti Haram 2001.
