Najib's corruption case begins today


KUALA LUMPUR -- Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will be tried on seven charges involving RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds in the High Court here today.

Coincidentally, on this same day 10 years ago, Najib, who is Pekan Member of Parliament, was sworn in as the sixth prime minister.

Najib, 66, the sixth prime minister of Malaysia, is the first (prime minister) to find himself in the dock of a court.

The much-awaited high profile trial will be heard before Judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali at 2 pm.

Najib is facing three counts of criminal breach of trust, one charge of abusing his position and three counts of money laundering over SRC International Sdn Bhd funds amounting to RM42 million.


The following are the developments relating to the trial:

3.29 pm : Prosecution will establish that Najib engaged in money laundering activities by receiving RM42 milion - AG.

3.26pm : Court calls first witness, Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) assistant registrar, Muhamad Akmaludin Abdullah, 35, to give evidence at the Najib SRC trial.

3.25 pm : Evidence will show that Najib's credit card was charged USD130,625 for expenses made at high-end boutique in Honolulu - AG

3.20 pm : Prosecution will prove that Najib has received RM42 million graft deposited to his personal account - AG

3.13 pm : The prosecution will rely on direct & circumstances evidence, oral & documented evidence to prove guilt of Najib - AG

3.10 pm : SRC trial : Najib maintains his plea not guilty

2.51 pm : High court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali dismisses Najib’s bid to have his application to declare CBT and abuse of power charges to be heard first before the commencement of trial and orders the trial to start now.

2.25 pm : High Court hears defence & prosecution submissions whether the court should have heard the application

2.18 pm : Defence team files application that charges against Najib are defective, AG objects

2.15 PM : Najib’s SRC trial begins with Attorney-General Tommy Thomas said the prosecution is ready to start.

2.08pm : Police have to pacify enraged Najib supporter, former Padang Serai MP, N. Gobalakrishnan, who was denied entry into the courtroom.

1.55 pm : Najib has arrived at the courts lobby.

1.48 pm : Attorney-General Tommy Thomas has entered the High Court criminal courtroom #3

1.43 pm: Police frisk press before entry to the courtroom is allowed.

1.38 pm : Press being allowed to enter the High Court's criminal courtroom #3

1.27 pm : Najib devotees beginning to congregate in the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex (KLCC) lobby

1.02 pm : The prosecution team’s deputy public prosecutor, Datuk Sulaiman Abdullah, arrives.

12.45 pm : Press queuing for trial entry pass at Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex lobby

11.30 am : International and local journalists cram into the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex before Najib trial begins.

PUTRAJAYA -- Mahkamah Majistret di sini “meriah” susulan prosiding reman beramai-ramai melibatkan 14 individu termasuk tujuh penjawat awam berkaitan dakwaan memberi dan menerima wang sogokan bagi melindungi premis urut di Kuala Lumpur. Hujan lebat di Kelantan dijangka berlanjutan ke Januari

KOTA BHARU -- Jabatan Meteorologi Kelantan menjangkakan episod hujan lebat berkemungkinan akan berlanjutan ke bulan Januari tahun hadapan di negeri ini. Pengarahnya Rabiah Zakaria berkata ia berikutan Kelantan masih dipengaruhi Monsun Timur Laut pada bulan berkenaan. "Jabatan Meteorologi Malaysia sebelum ini menjangkakan akan berlaku empat hingga enam episod hujan lebat sepanjang Monsun Timur Laut pada tahun ini dengan purata jumlah hujan antara 440 milimeter (mm) hingga 690mm bagi bulan Disember ini di Kelantan," katanya ketika dihubungi Bernama di sini, hari ini.
