Kebersihan Sandak

TH SOP to handling emergency cases on the holy land is sufficient

MAKKAH -- The Tabung Haji (TH) standard operating procedures (SOP) on safety is sufficient to guide TH workers in handling emergency cases on the holy land. Maktab 87 TH manager for the 1439H haj season Khairoddin Ahmad said the crane-collapse tragedy in Makkah in September 2015 was an experience that gave him better insight on ways to improve handling of the haj pilgrims and their welfare. "Even during training back home (in Malaysia), we have been exposed to the risk and what should be done during emergency,” he told a media conference here. For the current haj season, he said, the Maktab 87 management team  comprised 11 workers. "All Maktab managers have been provided the SOP for important matters in the haj pilgrimage, like movement during the  Masyair, namely for the wukuf in Arafah and then to Muzdalifah and Mina. "We need proper and coordinated planning. For the Masyair operation, the 11 of us will be assisted by workers from the welfare division,” h

Irwan lodged report with MACC over allegations of RM18 billion loss

PUTRAJAYA -- Former Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Mohd Irwan Serigar  Abdullah on Friday lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the alleged loss of RM18 billion meant for the refund of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). He was at the MACC headquarters for about two hours from 9.30 am, having driven there himself in a black Chevrolet car. As he emerged from the building, Mohd Irwan Serigar told reporters that he made a report so as to find out the truth because he felt that the allegation of the missing RM18 billion was unfounded. He had yesterday denied the allegation by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng on Wednesday that there was a shortfall of RM18 billion in the RM19.4 billion meant for the refund of the GST to traders. Mohd Irwan Serigar said he would also lodge a police report this afternoon. “The MACC gave the assurance that it will investigate the matter. The money did not go missing. Doctor freed on charge with causing death of former DPM's son-in-law

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Sessions Court here on Friday acquitted and discharged an Obstetric & Gynaecology specialist who was charged with causing the death of former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s son-in-law, Datuk Syed Alman Zain Syed Alwi, during a dental treatment three years ago. Judge Zaman Mohd Noor  ordered the release of Dr Ting Teck Chin, 38, after finding that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case at the end of the prosecution’s case. “There were inconsistencies in the testimony between the anaesthetist and the autopsy expert on the cause of death of the deceased. The anaesthetist said there was cardiac arrest as a result of over-sedation, while the autopsy expert opined that the death was caused due to allergy to anaesthetic. “However, the testimony by the anaesthetist did say the possibility of the death due to allergy to anaesthetic, although it seldom happens, but the possibility is there. Therefore, the accused is

Penang govt to review underground reservoir project to tackle floods

GEORGE TOWN -- The Penang state government is reviewing a proposal to build an underground reservoir such as the one in Bangkok, Thailand which is capable of accommodating 3,785 cubic metres of rainwater in efforts to tackle flooding in the state. State Public Works Committee, Utility and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said through the technology, rainwater would be “filled up” as much as possible into the tank, and then “swallowed” slowly through pumps that will then drain water into the river. This project is interesting not only in flood mitigation but also in terms of aesthetics and recreation as the park can also be used by the public when it does not rain," he said when winding up the debate on the address of Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas at the State Legislative Assembly sitting here. However, Zairil said a comprehensive study should be carried out. It should include reviewing the feasibility of the technology as a c

Proton vehicles prize are set to increase after reintroduction of SST

SHAH ALAM -- Proton Edar Sdn Bhd expects the prices of Proton vehicles are set to increase by between RM1,500 to RM3,000 with the reintroduction of the Sales and Service Tax (SST) in September. Hence, its Chief Executive Officer, Abdul Rashid Musa advised the public to buy the car of their choice during the transition from the zero-rated Goods and Services Tax (GST) to SST, to enjoy the savings. “We expect the price of Proton vehicles to go up after the implementation of the SST even though we have yet to ascertain the accurate figures as the government has yet to announce the tax mechanism. “The calculation of the price increase (RM1,500-RM3,000) was made based on the GST introduced by previous government to replace the SST where the prices of Proton cars then were reduced by between RM1,500 and RM3,000. "As such, when the SST is re-introduced, we expect there will be a similar increase in the quantum price," he told reporters after the Proton Wealth on Wheels (W

Kajang Hospital is too congested

KAJANG – The Kajang Hospital is congested because it wards 50 per cent more patients than its capacity, said Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. He said one of the main reasons for the congestion was the high daily rate of bed occupancy, up to 150 per cent. He said this situation which had persisted for several years was due to the high number of patients, affecting not just the wards but also the specialist clinics and emergency unit. He said the hospital had been forced to accept a large number of patients beyond its capacity. Dr Dzulkefly said he had ordered the hospital to optimise the use of available space and to request for more beds. “At present, the Kajang Hospital has 326 beds, so I have asked the hospital authorities to apply for at least 15 more. “As a long-term solution, the ministry plans to build additional blocks and upgrade the existing ones,” Dr Dzulkefly told reporters after visiting the hospital here.
