Irwan lodged report with MACC over allegations of RM18 billion loss

PUTRAJAYA -- Former Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Mohd Irwan Serigar  Abdullah on Friday lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the alleged loss of RM18 billion meant for the refund of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

He was at the MACC headquarters for about two hours from 9.30 am, having driven there himself in a black Chevrolet car.

As he emerged from the building, Mohd Irwan Serigar told reporters that he made a report so as to find out the truth because he felt that the allegation of the missing RM18 billion was unfounded.

He had yesterday denied the allegation by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng on Wednesday that there was a shortfall of RM18 billion in the RM19.4 billion meant for the refund of the GST to traders.
Mohd Irwan Serigar said he would also lodge a police report this afternoon.

“The MACC gave the assurance that it will investigate the matter. The money did not go missing. It had been placed in the Consolidated Fund,” he said, reiterating what he had said yesterday.
Asked whether he had given any document to the MACC, Mohd Irwan Serigar said all the relevant documents were with the Finance Ministry.

KUALA LUMPUR -- National car maker, Proton Holdings Bhd, is adopting an alphanumerical naming system for its future models beginning with the X70, its first sport utility vehicle (SUV). Sales and Marketing Vice-President Abdul Rashid Musa said the letter X is synonymous with crossover or SUV vehicles, while the number 70 denoted the size or class of the SUV and would enable Proton to adopt a logical system to add bigger or smaller models in the future. “This is the first time an alphanumerical naming system is used on a Proton model as our research shows it will make it easier to sell in ASEAN and other international markets, as there are no language barriers to overcome,” he told reporters at the preview of the new SUV. Proton Chief Executive Officer Dr Li Chunrong said Proton's adoption of the new naming system would make customer more focus on the brand name as compared with the model name.
