Malaysia perlu ada universiti pertanian

SERDANG -- Malaysia memerlukan sebuah universiti yang pengajaran dan pembelajarannya berfokus kepada bidang pertanian bagi melahirkan pakar dan graduan yang diperlukan sektor berkenaan pada masa hadapan, kata Menteri Pertanian dan Industri Asas Tani Datuk Salahuddin Ayub. Beliau berkata ia akan melibatkan pertimbangan sama ada perlu menubuhkan sebuah universiti  pertanian atau mengembalikan fungsi Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) seperti awal penubuhannya yang menekankan pertanian sebagai teras. SOSMA still under review

KUALA LUMPUR -- The proposed abolition of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) is still under review as the abolition, should it take place, will affect the authorities involved in discharging their duties to combat security offences and threats. Threshold for annual sales tax to be raise to RM500,00

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Government will increase the annual sales threshold for eligibility to register for the Sales Tax to RM500,000 annually under the Sales and Tax Service Tax (SST) from RM100,000 previously. Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said the annual turnover threshold of RM500,000 would also apply to manufacturers who carried out sub-manufacturing activities, for which the annual sales threshold was at RM20,000 before. "This is to enable small-sized manufacturers to operate without having to pay this tax," he said when tabling the Sales Tax Bill 2018 for the second reading at the Dewan Rakyat. Lim said the government expected only 27,456 manufacturers would be registered under the Sales Tax compared with 32,725 under the Goods and Services Tax (GST). KBS re-activated MSN Board to ensure centralisation of power foes not occur

KUALA LUMPUR – The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) has decided to re-activate the National Sports Council (MSN) Board at the central level as a measure to ensure centralisation of power does not occur. Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said that, with the move, all youth and sports development processes in each state could be done in tandem regardless of political ideologies. SOCSO launchs Synergy Programne to improves beneficiaries'

KUALA LUMPUR – The Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), in collaboration with four agencies, has launched the Social Synergy Programme to further improve SOCSO beneficiaries’ economic standing and quality of life. The four agencies are Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK), Giat Mara, Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). Police seeking five suspects linked to drug heist

SEREMBAN --  The police are seeking five more suspects to assist with investigations into a gang robbery case at the Customs Narcotics Administration Complex in Kampung Jijan, Nilai, last Sunday. Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin said among the suspects sought were Tong Lip Seong and Tung Seong Leong, both aged 30, from Port Dickson. "In the report filed by security guards who were on duty on the day of the incident, 10 masked men broke in and fled with 60 boxes of henna from one of the containers stored inside the complex, some of which contained drugs. "However, based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, the police found that the number of masked suspects involved in the case was around six to seven," he said. KUALA LUMPUR –  Prime Minister  Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has  thanked Indonesian President  Joko Widodo and the Indonesian government for their assistance in handing over the super luxury yacht ‘Equanimity’, which the Indonesian authorities had seized, to Malaysia. Board revamps will rehabiltate and grow FGV business

KUALA LUMPUR -- The government is confident the initiatives to restructure FGV Holdings Bhd’s (FGV) board of directors and the steps taken to introduce the Strategic Plan 2020 (SP20) will rehabilitate and grow the group’s business and share price. Deputy Economic Affairs Minister Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said the initiatives will be able to rehabilitate the group in stages. “This will also restore investor perception towards FGV and bring positive impact on the share price,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat, Bernama reported. Equanimity now has been seized under Malaysian laws

PORT KLANG -- The luxury superyacht 'Equanimity', believed to be linked to businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low, which arrived at the Boustead Cruise Centre here today afternoon, has been properly seized under Malaysian laws. The yacht reached the terminal at 12.35 pm accompanied by four Marine Police patrol boats. More than 50 media representatives from various local and foreign media organisations were at the terminal. The 91.5-metre-long vessel had 12 crew on board including the captain. After its arrival, officials from the High Court, Attorney General's Chambers, Customs Department, and Immigration Department carried out certain inspection procedures which took about an hour. Najib will charge for money laundering today

KUALA LUMPUR -- Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak  who was slapped with three charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT) and one count of abuse of power over funds totalling RM42 million belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd, is expected to be charged today on three charges of money laundering. According to a source from Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC),  Najib will be brought to the Sessions Court, in Jalan Duta Court Complex to face three additional charges of  the  SRC funds under Section 4(1) of Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 (AMLATFA). “He will be charged on additional charges,” said the source.  The section carries a maximum fine of RM5 million or imprisonment of up to five years, or both, if found guilty. Equanimity arrive at Klang Port

KLANG -- The yacht, estimated to be worth RM1 billion, is believed to be part of the assets purchased using funds from 1MDB. Its purported owner businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low, is also being sought to assist in the investigation into 1MDB. Yesterday, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad thanked Indonesian President Joko Widodo and his government for their assistance in handing over the yacht seized by authorities from the republic to Malaysia. The ship was seized in Bali in February at the request of the US Department of Justice (DOJ), however, in April, the Indonesian court ruled that the seizure was illegal, and that the yacht should be returned to its owner. The Indonesian authorities seized it again in July following a formal request for legal assistance from the US.

Kerajaan cadang kurangkan hari cabutan khas nombor ramalan

Robbers escaped with boxes of drugs from Customs office

SEREMBAN -- A group of robbers escaped with seven boxes of what were believed to be ketamine and heroin at the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) Narcotics Unit Office in Jijan near here on Sunday. Customs director-general Datuk Seri T. Subromaniam said the seized drugs, weighing about 50kg, were kept in a container which was parked at the JKDM’s office compound when the incident occurred at 3 am. He said the container was initially seized by the department’s personnel at Westport in Klang, Selangor recently before it was taken to the scene for further investigation. “Following the incident, the department had lodged a police report. Fed govt urged to study the financial impact of abolishing toll on Penang Bridge

GEORGE TOWN -- Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow urged the federal government to study the financial  impact of abolishing toll on the Penang Bridge. "The federal government must study the implications of paying compensation to the concessionaire and maintenance costs based on the concession contract which still has 20 years to go,” he said when replying to a question from Lee Khai Loon (PKR-Machang Bubuk) during the first sitting of the Penang State Assembly since the 14th general election (GE14)  on May 9. IKSIM activities and accounts will be frozen immediately

KUALA LUMPUR -- A total of RM7.43 million from RM7.6 million expenses and payments made by the Institute of Islamic Strategic Research Malaysia (IKSIM) cannot be accounted for, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (JPM) Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa. He said following an internal audit on the institute it was found that the financial procedures were unclear and purchases were made not in accordance with the purpose of request. "Only RM0.17 million or 2.2 per cent were confirmed to be expenses while the remaining amount cannot be accounted for,” he said when winding up the debate on the motion of thanks for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s speech for his ministry in the Dewan Rakyat.
