SEREMBAN -- A group of robbers escaped with seven boxes of what were believed to be ketamine and heroin at the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) Narcotics Unit Office in Jijan near here on Sunday.
Customs director-general Datuk Seri T. Subromaniam said the seized drugs, weighing about 50kg, were kept in a container which was parked at the JKDM’s office compound when the incident occurred at 3 am.
He said the container was initially seized by the department’s personnel at Westport in Klang, Selangor recently before it was taken to the scene for further investigation.
“Following the incident, the department had lodged a police report. Subsequently, police had detained five suspects comprising two customs officers, two security guards and a civilian,” he said in a statement.
Subromaniam said the suspects were being remanded for six days until Saturday.
He said the department would conduct an internal investigation and take stern action, including sacking, against any of its officers found to have been involved in the case.
“As such, JKDM has beefed up security and patrols at the Narcotics Unit Office in Jijan by deploying the Customs Armed Tactical Team (COBRA).
“Such measure has since been implemented at all JKDM’s storage facilities nationwide,” Subromaniam added.
