Police seeking five suspects linked to drug heist

SEREMBAN --  The police are seeking five more suspects to assist with investigations into a gang robbery case at the Customs Narcotics Administration Complex in Kampung Jijan, Nilai, last Sunday.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin said among the suspects sought were Tong Lip Seong and Tung Seong Leong, both aged 30, from Port Dickson.

"In the report filed by security guards who were on duty on the day of the incident, 10 masked men broke in and fled with 60 boxes of henna from one of the containers stored inside the complex, some of which contained drugs.

"However, based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, the police found that the number of masked suspects involved in the case was around six to seven," he said.

State CID chief Wan Rukman Wan Hassan was also present.

Noor Azam said the incident was believed to have occurred at around 3 am, whereby the suspects came in three vehicles and broke into the complex before binding and gagging the two guards on duty.

"The suspects then broke one of the containers there and ran away with 60 boxes of henna and we believe that some of these boxes contain drugs such as ketamine and heroin.

"The amount of losses has yet to be determined because of the 60 boxed stolen, not all are believed to contain drugs," he said.

Noor Azam said the investigation found that the container seized by the Customs had arrived in Port Klang from Pakistan on May 7.

A Customs inspection on June 7 found that of the 650 boxes of henna in the container, several contained drugs, and there were two such containers.

"On July 18, the two containers were taken to the Narcotics Store, which is the scene of the crime, for further investigation by the Customs," he said.

Following the report filed on Sunday, the police arrested five suspects aged between 24 and 61, namely two security guards on duty, two Customs officers and one civilian.

"From the arrest of the civilian, the police seized several henna boxes which were burnt, and a transparent plastic packet containing crystals believed to be ketamine, weighing 48.32 grams.

"Also seized were two cars, one weighing machine, seven mobile phones, one bag, and RM58,973 in cash," he said.

All the suspects are under remand until Saturday and the case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code.

Sales and Marketing Vice-President Abdul Rashid Musa said the letter X is synonymous with crossover or SUV vehicles, while the number 70 denoted the size or class of the SUV and would enable Proton to adopt a logical system to add bigger or smaller models in the future. “This is the first time an alphanumerical naming system is used on a Proton model as our research shows it will make it easier to sell in ASEAN and other international markets, as there are no language barriers to overcome,” he told reporters at the preview of the new SUV.
