RM6.22 billion for restructuring of ministries

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Dewan Rakyat sitting on Wednesday night passed the Supply (Restructuring Expenditure Allocation) Bill 2018.
The Bill was passed after the third reading before Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof and received the majority vote.
The Bill, which provides an allocation of RM6.22 billion, was tabled following several restructuring of ministries after the 14th General Election (GE14).
Several ministries had been restructured and renamed and several new ministries had been set up while one ministry had been dissolved with its functions transferred to another ministry.
It also provided an act to utilise a sum of money from the Consolidated Fund for expenses for services for part of 2018.
Earlier, when winding up the Bill for the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, its minister Gobind Singh Deo said he was waiting for the detailed report on the incident of the “technical attack” on handphones during the GE14 on May 9.
He said that initial report showed that the attack was a technical attack or BOTS that could interrupt communication lines.
He added that the attack that occurred for several hours on May 9 was reported to have affected the communication channels of candidates contesting in the GE14 who had to know the latest development on voting on that day.
On May 9, several leaders of political parties claimed that they had received mystery calls from abroad on their handphones.
Among those who claimed to have received unanswered calls from overseas were Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and Pakatan Harapan leaders such as PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and PKR vice-president Tian Chua.
