TEMERLOH -- A plantation labourer was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here today with voluntarily injuring his father with a palm fruit cutter, on Thursday.
The accused M. Maheswaran, 22, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge which was read before Magistrate Nordiana Abd Aziz.
He allegedly committed the offence by hitting K. Magendran, 54, on the head with the metal cutter at a house in Kampung Labu, Kuala Krau here at 5.45 pm, on April 4.
He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code which provides a maximum jail term of 10 years, or fine, or whipping, or any two of the punishment, upon conviction.
Nordiana allowed the accused bail of RM5,000 with one surety and fixed April 30 for mention.
Prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nor Asyikin Nor Azhar while Maheswaran was unrepresented.
